The Music Center Marketing and Communications intern will help implement a marketing strategy for The Music Center’s summer programming under the guidance of the assistant vice president of marketing and brand communications. That will include work to support The Music Center’s Dance DTLA, The Music Center’s Summer SoundWaves concert series, along with a new pop concert that will honor a major donor for the organization. A highly popular free outdoor dance series, Dance DTLA takes place on Jerry Moss Plaza at The Music Center. During the pandemic, The Music Center first transitioned this program to an all digital format in summer 2020 but brought back the series in an abbreviated format (five events versus the typically 12-13) in summer 2021. Dance DTLA has been the cornerstone of The Music Center’s public programming each summer for the past 16 years. The Music Center introduced a new outdoor music series called Summer SoundWaves in summer 2020 as low-cost, family friendly music performances featuring local bands. The intention this year is to grow the series, working closely with the artists and promoters to reach new prospective audiences throughout Los Angeles County. The marketing intern will work closely with The Music Center’s Marketing and Communications team to implement the social and digital media strategy to support each program throughout the summer. In addition, the intern will handle onsite logistics as they pertain to the Marketing and Communications Department’s support of these programs including media relations, collateral distribution and social media coverage. The intern will work on implementation of weekly audience surveys and provide analysis of responses in addition to reviewing and interpreting real-time analytics of online viewership and developing recommendations on appropriate ways to fine-tune marketing efforts. The intern will also provide general support to the Marketing and Communications team for all Music Center summer programs, including but not limited to, Grand Park Fourth of July Block Party, dance engagements that are part of The Music Center’s Dance series, and professional development seminars for educators, among other programs.
Qualified candidates will possess a creative mindset and problem-solving skills and an ability to think critically. Strong project management and organizational skills are required, as well as the ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in a written and verbal format. The candidate must be willing to collaborate with all colleagues and have a keen interest in marketing and communications. Experience using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) is required; working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
The Music Center convenes artists, communities and ideas with the goal of deepening the cultural lives of every resident in Los Angeles County. With a commitment to relevant, accessible programming by, with and for all Angelenos, the non-profit performing arts organization presents world-class dance with Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center, free and low-cost public concerts and events, as well as K–12 arts education programs along with workshops, performances, interactive experiences and special events on its digital platform, The Music Center Offstage.
