Candidates for Angels Gate Cultural Center’s (AGCC) Arts Education Intern position should be interested in learning about K-12 Arts Education Programming at a nonprofit arts organization. Working closely with AGCC’s education team, the intern will have the opportunity to learn about and assist during innovative and progressive arts educational programs for both youth and adults. The Arts Education Intern will help to deliver and to promote all education programs at AGCC, including Community Classes taught at the Center, as well as the Artists-in-Classrooms in-school program, and other community arts workshops. The Intern will also participate in administrative activities and will have the opportunity to gain knowledge about an arts nonprofit’s daily operations, gallery and studio artists programs, event promotion and marketing, grant-writing and budgeting, and arts education advocacy. This is a part-time, paid, 12-week internship, flexible dependent on the intern’s availability.
QUALIFICATIONS: An enthusiasm for the arts, for arts education, and a passion for bringing high-quality arts programming to an underserved area Major in art, arts education, museum studies and/or art history preferred Familiarity with Mac computers Knowledge of MS Office, including Excel and Word A familiarity with Adobe CS software preferred Knowledge of Social Media REQUIREMENTS: Professional demeanor Punctuality Excellent verbal and written communications skills Excellent organizational skills with great attention to detail Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment Must be able to problem-solve independently and collaborate with others Reliable form of transportation is required, as the Angels Gate Cultural Center is not easily accessible via public transportation Please note: Since the Angels Gate Cultural Center is a former military base and historic site, accessibility in some areas is a challenge
Angels Gate Cultural Center’s (AGCC) mission is to provide space for artists to work and to engage the community through arts education, exhibitions of contemporary art, and cultural events. AGCC is a medium-sized, community-based interdisciplinary arts center in San Pedro. We provide free and affordable access to the Arts in the largely low-to-moderate income working-class communities of San Pedro and the Los Angeles Harbor Region. AGCC offers a year-round schedule of gallery exhibitions of contemporary art, featuring the work of both local and national artists. In addition, the Center provides professional work-studio space for 52 artists, including musicians, ceramists, painters, sculptors, writers, photographers, printmakers and jewelers. Finally, AGCC offers ongoing arts education programming on-site at the Center through our Community Class program, in local schools through Artists-in-Classrooms, and throughout the Los Angeles Harbor community in various free public workshops.
