The Production Intern will be a key member of the team behind the Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival, an entire summer of classical theater presented free to thousands of Angelenos. The intern will serve as the Assistant Stage Manager for one production, seeing it through from rehearsals through final performance. During pre-production, the intern will be responsible for props, take notes during rehearsals, and complete other assigned tasks that support the Director, Designers, Stage Manager, and Producers. During the run of the production, the intern will be an integral member of the backstage crew for each night of performances. This position will work approximately 30 hours a week from June through September/October.
The intern should have a great interest in theater-making. They must be a team player, a problem solver, and a self-starter. The intern must possess strong interpersonal skills as well as time-management skills. The intern should have a basic understanding of the theatrical production process; prior stage management experience is preferable. The intern should be flexible, positive, collaborative, and enthusiastic. They should be able to problem-solve and not be afraid of getting their hands dirty. Light carpentry skills and basic sewing skills are assets. Evening and weekend hours will be required. Reliable transportation is also required.
