Background

The mission of The Unusual Suspects Theatre Company (US) is to mentor, educate, and enrich youth in under-resourced communities through the creation of collaborative, original theatre. An award-winning arts-based education and mentoring organization, US provides LA’s BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) and incarcerated youth with a powerful platform for expression and healing. Through proven programs of trauma-informed theatre-arts education, US reduces risk factors that threaten the well-being of over 1,600 Los Angelinos served annually (93% aged 9-19). US is currently pursuing transformative action steps to counter inequity and the legacies of racism. Our Board of Directors is working with staff and Teaching Artists to revise our mission and vision statements, and to refresh our programs and practices to better empower LA’s predominantly BIPOC youth and families.
