Seeking an intern with a love of theater and an interest in the various kinds of work required to run a professional theater, including technical production, program management, and arts marketing. Intern will work with SMP’s Managing Coordinator, Technical Director, and Stage Manager on the theater’s summer and fall 2022 productions. Intern will also provide support for SMP’s arts education and community engagement programs. This position will work approximately 20 hours a week (on a schedule of 4-6 hours per day worked) from July to November 2022. Intern location will be hybrid (onsite and remote, depending on type of work) and flexibly arranged within the following parameters: general technical, marketing, and administrative work is done on weekdays during business hours; production work on specific shows, including technical run-throughs and rehearsals, is typically done on weekday evenings; performances and community engagement events typically take place on weekends.
This is a hybrid position: intern should be able to work onsite and in-person for at least part of their scheduled time. Must have an interest in theater and be willing to learn and work in different aspects of professional theater operations and programming. Strong writing and organizational skills required. Preferred qualifications include working knowledge of various social media platforms, design software such as Canva or Photoshop, and administrative and data management tools including Microsoft Office and Google Suite. Experience with arts marketing, community engagement, and/or arts education programming a plus. Technical production work often involves climbing ladders, crawling into small spaces, and lifting up to 50 lbs. – these abilities are not required, but should be considered by applicant. Intern must be able to work in the US and meet all requirements determined by the LA County Arts Internship Program.
The Sierra Madre Playhouse is an award-winning, equity-waiver theater located in the heart of the San Gabriel Valley. We produce a variety of shows by diverse American playwrights, as well as youth education and community engagement programs. Other offerings include film screenings, play and short readings, and musical performances.
