Description

Calling all scribes! Self Help Graphics & Art (SHG) is seeking a qualified undergraduate student with interest in communications, journalism, broadcast journalism, film, multimedia or related field for its Arts Journalism and Public Relations Internship position. The internship position will work with the Communications lead on public relations campaigns, social media and blog story development to support the 49th Annual Dia de los Muertos programming and seasonal events through the art of storytelling. The ideal candidate loves art and art history, knows AP Style (or is willing to learn), loves to write, is organized, must meet deadlines, has a positive can-do attitude, is resourceful, and has a strong interest in working with a legendary cultural arts organization and its artists. This internship is approximately 75% writing and 25% visual communications, and requires 30 - 40 hours per week between June and September. 

Qualifications

Experience or interest in learning the following is ideal: - Appreciation of art, Chicana/o/x and Latinx art history, and the cultural contributions of BIPOC communities  - Journalism and AP style writing  - Story-telling and narrative building - Social media content creation  - Knowledge of DSLR cameras - iMovie, Photoshop and Illustrator; bonus Adobe Premiere Pro and/or AfterEffects. - Light web design

Self Help Graphics and Art (SHG) is one of the city's historical gems and is widely known in Los Angeles for providing free or low-cost workshops to emerging and professional artists, youth arts education and creative workforce development.  As the longest-running arts organization in East Los Angeles, SHG serves a critical need for creative expression, allowing a multigenerational community to expand their artistic abilities and find their creative voice.
