The Dance Education Intern will learn how to adapt teaching ballroom or modern dance to adults with developmental disabilities and blindness with the goal of helping them to gain artistic technique and enhanced skills and, over the long term, become a dancer. The intern’s primary responsibility will be to shadow and assist a dance instructor in the classroom who has expertise in ballroom or modern dance, as well as experience working with people with disabilities. This position will prepare the intern for jobs that bring their art to people of differing abilities and encourage inclusivity - such as teaching an adaptive dance class in a school - while exposing them to the unique artistic perspectives and styles of TLC clients. The intern will work 20-30 hours a week from July - December.
The ideal candidate will have experience in and a passion for ballroom or modern dance. They will be patient, kind, and enthusiastic about engaging people of differing abilities in the artistic process.
