The Production / Community Impact Intern is a vital staff member working with the artistic, program and administrative staff to improve opportunities for cultural engagement and access so that the values of equity, diversity and inclusion are reflected in Skylight’s audiences. Working with the current production and in collaboration with the creative team, the Intern helps build relationships and engagement opportunities with Los Angeles communities and organizations that would be interested in, or are affected by, the subject matter of the play. The Intern’s activities are supported by the Ticket Initiative subsidy, outreach activities, marketing, and public relations. The internship, scheduled to coincide with third play of the 2021/2022 Collaborative Season, is for 30-40 hours a week, June through August.
The Production / Community Impact must possess strong interpersonal skills, be an excellent communicator in person and on paper, a self-starter, socially aware, and be comfortable with people of diverse backgrounds in person or over the phone. They need solid administrative and computer skills, a better than average knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, and how to do research (incl. in depth social media research). They should have a positive upbeat attitude, be collaborative, flexible, and able to complete tasks accurately and on time. Practical knowledge about theater is very helpful. Evening, weekday, and weekend hours are required, along with reliable transportation that allows you to travel easily across Los Angeles to deliver materials, participate in meetings and events at multiple locations in the same day when necessary. While requirements may change, proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required and masks must be worn by anyone who enters the theater.
The nationally recognized, award-winning Skylight Theatre Company is considered a “powerhouse of new play development.” Focusing on stories and artists that reflect LA’s rich diversity of culture, ethnicity, perspectives, and experiences, Skylight utilizes entertainment to spark conversation and promote social change. Since 2017, two plays originating at Skylight have been performed Off-Broadway, and the resident playwright’s program is led by a Pulitzer Finalist and Tony Award nominated playwright.
