Description

The Production Intern works alongside the Artistic Director, Staff and Creative Teams to mount a world premiere play that is challenging, relevant, and inclusive. Working as part of a collaborative team, they'll  participate in the day-to-day activities of a professional theatrical production (attending rehearsals, providing production support, scheduling, etc.). The Intern will utilize their skills to contribute to the play development program and planning of the following Season.   The internship, scheduled to coincide with third play of the 2021/2022 Collaborative Season, is for 30-40 hours a week, June through August. 

Qualifications

The PRODUCTION INTERN must possess strong interpersonal skills, be a self-starter, flexible and collaborative, and be an excellent communicator with a positive attitude. You need an aptitude for problem solving, multi-tasking, and time management, along with an understanding of how a play is produced (prior stage management experience is preferred).    To be successful you’ll need an ability to take detailed notes, organize, coordinate and follow-through on tasks to ensure deadlines are met. You need to be able to communicate clearly in writing and not hesitate to call people on the phone. Good office skills and solid computer skills are a must, including Microsoft Word and Excel. Evening, weekday, and weekend hours are required, as is reliable transportation that allows you to run errands or work at multiple locations.  While requirements may change, proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required and masks must be worn by anyone who enters the theater.

The nationally recognized and award-winning Skylight Theatre Company is considered a “powerhouse of new play development.”  By focusing on stories and artists that reflect LA’s rich diversity of culture, ethnicity, perspectives, and experiences, Skylight utilizes entertainment to spark conversation and promote social change. Since 2017, two plays originating at Skylight have been performed Off-Broadway, and the resident playwright’s program is led by a Pulitzer Finalist and Tony Award nominated playwright.
