Our final workshop will share stories of LA County artists who have sustained and supported artistic careers through public art. In an open dialogue with a panel of artists, we will ask questions about the challenges and opportunities they have encountered as they sought to build sustainability into their practices. We will draw on the experiences of our community to ask what opportunities we may see for future economic empowerment among LA County artists. Drawing on historical examples and looking toward potential futures, we will focus on how public art can shape our shared spaces and collective narratives. We will consider approaches for designing through the lens of the site and the histories, narratives, and conceptual themes the site may hold.
