This will be a unique experience at the nexus of managing performing arts in Los Angeles and experiencing the business needs and practices of a large, thriving multi-million-dollar cultural organization. The intern will gain a basic understanding of how a nonprofit arts organization functions through mentoring by senior staff, including the Director of Finance and Administration and other department staff; will experience working in an office environment with arts administrators at all levels; will gain hands-on experience in planning a fiscal strategy, participating in assigned tasks, while managing multiple deadlines and prioritizing work flow, and will learn to approach vendors and contractors and maintain business relationships. This Finance Intern position will work approximately 20 hours a week from September 2024 through January 2025 either at the Orchestra’s business office in downtown Los Angeles or remotely (determined by start of internship).
Applicants will be expected to demonstrate solid mathematical and operational skills, including use of spreadsheets and aptitude for computer-based programs. Basic knowledge of accounting in nonprofit or business settings will be required. Other requirements: solid written and verbal communication skills; flexibility; ability to prioritize and be organized; adept at meeting deadlines; strong ethos of customer service and teamwork; fluency in MS Word, Excel and Teams; familiarity with database work.
